Guernsey Bloodline
- the origins -
The origins of the Guernsey cow come mainly from a combination of two types of breeds, the "Froment du Leon" and the Norman Brindle. The "Froment du Leon" is the main originator of the breed with the closest amount of similarities. The "froment of Leon" is known to have a smaller than the Guernseys we see now but its color markings are very similar and they were known to have the rich golden milk that was superior when making butter. The Norman Brindle was known to be heavier and also were marked with a black nose. The combination of the two breeds gives us our medium framed cow a rich supply of quality milk.

""Enthusiasm an innovation have always been trademarks of those involved with Guernsey cattle, on a national level as well as a local one. In 1972, a group of dairyman and businessmen put together a restaurant franchise featuring healthy, nutritious Golden Guernsey milk and dairy products - Guernsey Restaurants, Inc. Taking the national Golden Guernsey program- the first and only EVER to promote and "brand market" a generic product-milk- a step further.
Guernsey Maid Restaurants had issued 1,000,000 shares of stock by the late 1970s to shareholders in Pennsylvania and other northeastern states and including the Pennsylvania Guernsey Breeder's Association under the direction of William Juzi. At the companies peak, five restaurants operating in Pennsylvania and Maryland served Golden Guernsey milk, ice cream, broiled hamburgers and broasted chicken."
